Designed to recognize Joseph Patton’s life as a businessman, entrepreneur and community servant, Competition—sponsored by Joe Patton Trust and Jan White—is intended for La Sierra University students interested in starting their own businesses. Each plan will be judged based on its creativity, on its organization, on its detail, and on its possession of other characteristics likely to make it attractive to potential funding sources. One (1) seed grant in the amount of $5,000 will be awarded every year to the best business plan submitted.

ELIGIBILITY:

1.    Each person submitting a business plan must be a full-time La Sierra University student who has completed a minimum of 90 quarter-hour credits, or must have graduated no more than three months prior to the date the Award is presented.
2.    A plan must be submitted by a single student.
3.    Each applicant must have a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.0.
4.    Each applicant must be (or in the case of a graduate applicant, have been) a member in good standing of the L.S.U. S.I.F.E. program.
5.    Each applicant must currently be involved in some form of community service.
6.    A submitted business plan must be for a start-up business only—not for an existing business.

APPLICATION DEADLINE:   May 15, 2009 at  5:00 p.m.

La Sierra University SIFE team advances to US National Exposition
17 March 2009

The La Sierra University Students In Free Enterprise team won their grouping at the Los Angeles regional competition, and will represent the school at the SIFE United States Championship event in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, May 10-12. According to SIFE Faculty Fellow Jodi Cahill, the team also won special topic awards in the areas of Entrepreneurship, Environmental Sustainability, and Ethics. The Los Angeles regional took place today in Hollywood.

La Sierra’s SIFE team was competing against the University of La Verne, Wheeling Jesuit University, Pepperdine University, and Whittier College. As one of the Los Angeles regional champions, LSU SIFE will join about 160 colleges and universities in the US National Exposition a little less than two months from now.

Congratulations to all our students who’ve been involved in SIFE projects throughout the year, the SIFE Faculty Fellows—Andrew Truong, Heather Miller, and Jodi Cahill—and Dean Johnny Thomas in the School of Business. May God continue to bless your efforts as you represent La Sierra University in this important arena.
