Dean's Welcome
Business education at La Sierra University is on the verge of a new era. We are transforming and revitalizing teaching, learning, and scholarship in the School of Business and Management. We can sum up our goals very simply: we want to help students to create value so they can make a difference.
Our program gives students the skills they need to create value in the new economy by building on our strengths in the core areas of business. We offer an MBA as well as BA and BS degrees in business with concentrations in key business specialties: accounting, finance, and management.
Students can also opt to study integrated marketing, drawing on resources in graphic design and the behavioral sciences, as well as e-commerce and international business. A customized major program lets a student design a tailor-made curriculum building on our offerings and, where appropriate, those of other schools on campus.MBA students can opt for a variety of emphases suited to their individual needs; our executive-track MBA program can be customized for the benefit of cohorts of students with various business and professional foci both locally and around the world.
All of our student-friendly, accessible full-time faculty, as well as our capable adjuncts, hold terminal degrees. We want to inspire our students to use their business skills and creativity to make a difference. That means infusing our programs with a spirit of social entrepreneurship and ethical business practice. We intend to offer socially responsible entrepreneurial programs, anchored in a solid liberal arts curriculum. We want to equip managers for effective leadership of nonprofit organizations and to prepare business executives committed to integrity, compassion, and social justice. We also want to support social entrepreneurship and morally responsible business activity in the church and the world through research and community education. Of course our students will opt for many different ways of making a difference. But we hope to graduate a dedicated, talented crop of social entrepreneurs.
Social entrepreneurs expand economic opportunity and build community wealth by promoting the development of innovative business enterprises that make social change happen. They foster positive social change and create value for their communities, their societies, and their world. We will encourage a commitment to ethics and social entrepreneurship in every classroom. But learning doesn't stop at the classroom door. By organizing social entrepreneurial ventures, helping people in need, and conducting community education programs, our students will develop empathy and deepen their understanding of the real-world significance of their studies.
They will learn to use their business skills and entrepreneurial creativity in new and venturesome avenues of service. We want to help today's and tomorrow's leaders make God's shalom wholeness, fulfillment, and justice in community; a reality. We promise our students an extraordinary preparation for responsible servant- leadership in business, government, and the nonprofit sector.
Expressing our commitment to service by emphasizing social entrepreneurship and ethics, we can make a real difference in the world. At the same time, we can define a distinctive identity and attract students and community supporters who share our vision. We hope you'll join us.
